Northland College men’s basketball coach steps down
ASHLAND — Northland College Athletic Director Bill Wilson announced that head men’s basketball coach Rob Robinson is stepping down effective immediately.
Robinson began his coaching career at Northland in 1994 as an assistant for the men’s basketball team, helping them achieve back-to-back 19 win seasons and an appearance in the 1996 NAIA National Tournament. In 1997, he was named head coach of Northland’s women’s basketball program. Robinson led the Jills to five UMAC championships and two NAIA National Tournament appearances. He was named coach of the year five consecutive seasons. This season, the Lumberjacks basketball team finished the season with a 5-20 record.
“I have met many great people of the last 18 years and being able to coach basketball in my hometown has been a great experience,” Robinson said. “I would like to thank my family, my Northland family, and the Ashland community for their support over my career.”
“Coach Robinson put the Northland College women’s basketball program on the map in the early 2000s,” Wilson said. “His efforts are greatly appreciated and we wish him well as he pursues other professional opportunities.”
According to Wilson, a national search for a successor to Robinson will be conducted with the expectation of having a new head coach named by early April.
