James (Jim) Whittier

James (Jim) Whittier was born Aug. 12, 1928 in Superior. His parents were Edward Joseph and Anna Marie Whittier.

James (Jim) Whittier was born Aug. 12, 1928 in Superior. His parents were Edward Joseph and Anna Marie Whittier.

Jim received his bachelor of science degree from University of Wisconsin, Superior, where he was chosen one of the university's top 100 outstanding alumni. He was captain of the basketball team, was All Conference, both junior and senior years, and was sworn into the University of Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame in 1986.

Jim served in the U.S. Army 1946-1948, in the 82nd Airborne.

Jim worked at Pacific Mutual Life Insurance for over 40 years and retired as Executive Vice President.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Diane Whittier; son Michael and wife Marie of Albany, Ore.; daughter Mary Schenker of Freeport, Maine; two granddaughters, Taylor and Lauren Schenker of Freeport, Maine; and two sisters, Margaret (Mugs) Jordan of Superior, and Jean Waite of Solana Beach, Calif.

Services were held January 6, 2012 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, Calif.
