LETTER: See the reason for a recall now?

The Obama administration his finally gotten some of the big banks to pony up some of their collective ill-gotten gains in a $25 billion settlement that is supposed to go toward helping homeowners affected by the foreclosure debacle between 2008 and 2011.

So what does Gov. Scott Walker do? He skims $26 million off the $140 million Wisconsin share of the settlement to plug a hole in the state budget. This was money that was supposed to go to some of our neighbors here in Wisconsin that were affected by the foreclosure mess.

This is the same Scott Walker who has always been against using “one-time money” for balancing state budgets.

The governor rationalized this by saying: “This is different because the foreclosure mess had a direct effect on the state’s economy.”

Really governor? A bigger affect than the lost revenue from tax cuts for corporations, and tax cuts for your wealthy campaign contributors? A bigger affect than the lost wages and spending power of public employees who took cuts to “do their share to help balance the budget?” Or a bigger affect than month after month of job losses?

It’s just more proof the governor is once again trying to balance the state budget on the backs of those who can least afford it.

Still, some of us see no reason for a recall.

Amazing.
