Bernice Lorraine Buytaert Mohr, 85, of DeBary, Fla., formerly of Superior, died Sunday, Jan. 22, at Fish Memorial Hospital, Orange City, Fla.
She was born at home in Allouez, Superior, on Aug. 10, 1926, to Amede "Nick" and Margaret Dens Buytaert, Bernice attended Franklin and St. Anthony schools and Superior East High School, graduating with the class of '44. She then worked as a biller at Northwestern Oil Company, Superior, until her marriage to George in 1948, after which she remained a homemaker and worked at noon hours as a crossing guard at Franklin School.
Bernice moved to Florida in 1989, and lived in Astor, then DeBary. Until moving to Florida, Bernice attended St. Anthony and Margaret Church in Allouez. She attended St. Ann's Catholic Church in DeBary in recent years. She enjoyed bowling, softball, sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking her fabulous breads, buns and cinnamon rolls and playing cards. Along with George, she organized and ran the annual fish fry at St. Hubert's Church in Astor while living there.
She was preceded in death by her infant triplet sons James, John, and Robert Mohr; brother August Buytaert, sisters Lillian Nicoski, Marcella Kelly, Marie Noble; brothers-in--law Joseph Nicoski, Robert Kelly and Donald Noble; nephews James Buytaert and James Mohr; and niece and godchild, Donna Noble.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, George Mohr of DeBary; children Jeffrey (Janet) Mohr, Burnsville, Minn., Michael (M.J.) Mohr, Elephant Butte, N.M., and Marcie (Jeff) Keppers, Munger, Minn.; grandchildren Summer (Dan) Schutte, Travares, Fla., Giorgi and Karli Keppers, Munger and step-grandson Ted Ukkola of Solon Springs; and great-grandchildren Kaydence and Drew Schutte; brother Jack (Karen) Buytaert of Cloquet, Minn., sister-in-law Jean Buytaert of Spring Lake Park, Minn., brother-in-law Edward Mohr of Superior; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will occur 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial Mass Tuesday, Jan. 31 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Superior, with the Rev. Don Kania officiating. A time of fellowship will follow in the church hall.
