The Douglas County Highway Department has declares County Trunk Highways frozen, allowing for increased weight limits, unless otherwise posted, starting at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.

The ending date of this declaration will be announced when conditions warrant. Normally, that occurs in late-February or early-March, but it usually goes into effect in mid-December. Eligibility for increased weight limitations is restricted to vehicles hauling peeled or unpeeled forest products cut crosswise not to include wood chips, or abrasives or salt for highway winter maintenance. For vehicles legally licensed to haul 80,000 pounds, no special permit is required during this period.

The gross weight imposed on the highway by the wheels of any one axle shall not exceed 23,000 pounds, 38,000 pounds for two axles less than seven feet apart, or 12,000 for groups of three consecutive axles between nine and 13 feet apart. The gross weight imposed on the highway by all axles may not exceed 98,000 pounds.
