LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A former bookkeeper has left $7.5 million to Aquinas Catholic Schools in La Crosse — the largest donation in the schools' history.
James Kiffe was a 1942 graduate of Aquinas and died in October at age 87. Kiffe worked at Northern Engraving and was a savvy investor. He belonged to the Coulee Investment Club for more than 45 years.
Aquinas president Kurt Nelson says more students will qualify for financial aid because of Kiffe's gift and those that already use it will receive more assistance. The La Crosse Tribune says about a quarter of students at Aquinas depend on financial aid for tuition that can reach nearly $5,500 per year.
