‘Artificial intelligence’ goes back to Adam, Eve

John McCarthy, a major contributor to computer science has recently died. He was the computer guru who termed the phrase “artificial intelligence” to define the false perception of rational thought produced by computers following commands of their programs.

The intelligence is artificial because computers are incapable of providing any insight of their own.

Artificial intelligence is not just a product of the computer industry. It has existed since Adam and Eve were enticed to increase their wisdom by eating the forbidden fruit in the garden. They wanted to achieve the intellect of God; however, they acquired just enough intelligence to get into trouble, but not enough to get out of it.

This situation has plagued humankind ever since.

Human, artificial intelligence resembles God’s intellect yet lacks the moral/ethical acumen to make it complete. It results in a distorted form of wisdom that never seems to understand the bigger picture of life, namely the spiritual realm. In fact, the more we promote our artificial intelligence, the less we accept of God, preferring our views to His.

The Apostle Paul expressed the human wisdom paradox by writing, “Although they (people in general) claimed to be wise, they became fools.” Romans 1:22.

In our daily decisions, it is good that we exercise the intuition we have in any given situation, but never to the extent that God and His wisdom is left out. To do so, may give the semblance of wisdom, but at best, without God, our mindset is artificial.
