Fan balloting opens for the 2012 Hobey Baker Award

Among the field up for the Hobey Baker Award are Jack Connolly, J.T. Brown and Travis Oleksuk of the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. Connolly’s dad, Mark, is a graduate from Superior Senior High School.

College hockey fans are asked to help with determining the 2012 Hobey Baker Award winner by voting for their favorite player. Awarded annually to college hockey’s top player, the Hobey Baker’s highly popular fan-voting phase opened Monday.

To vote, go to the Hobey Baker website at hobeybakeraward.com. Click on the Vote for Hobey Baker icon and follow the prompts to make your selection from this year’s crop of 77 college hockey players.

This first phase of fan balloting runs through March 4. Phase two of fan balloting begins March 16 from the list of Top Ten Hobey Baker finalists. The fans’ vote accounts for a full one percent of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year’s award recipient.

The three Hobey Hat Trick finalists will be announced March 29 and the 2012 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced April 6, during the NCAA Frozen Four championships in St. Petersburg, Fla.
