Kirchoff wins 145-pound title at Spartan Wrestling Classic

The host Superior High School Spartans finished in fourth place in its own Spartan Wrestling Classic Saturday in the SHS gym.

Ladysmith won the team title with 175.5 points. The Northwood Evergreens finished in fifth place and the Northwestern Tigers were eighth in the nine-team event.

Local wrestlers winning their weight classes were Superior’s Nick Kirchoff, 145 pounds; and Northwood’s Brandon Wilcox, 182 pounds.

Superior also had two second-place finishers, Nathan VanErt at 106 and Ben Regner at 220.

Northwood’s Trevor LaFave came in second place at 170 and Jacob Minot was Northwestern’s top finisher coming in second at 285.

The Spartans host Ladysmith at 7 p.m. on Jan. 19, Northwood is at Bruce at 7 p.m. Thursday and Northwestern is at Hayward at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17.
