Oliver Moretto, 87, of rural Superior passed away Dec. 24 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior in the loving arms of his family.

Oliver was born Oct. 28, 1924, at the family farm in Superior to Italian immigrants, Alfonsa and Gervasio Moretto.

Oliver married Irene Vendela on April 14, 1951. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage. Oliver was employed at the US Steel Plant. He later worked for the town of Superior.

He proudly served his country in WWII. He was a cannoneer for the 308th Field Artillery Battalion Lightning Division.

In Oliver’s younger years he worked hard on the family farm raising beef cattle and putting up hay. He loved to go to auction sales and flea markets. He enjoyed the simple things in life and loved to be outdoors enjoying nature, but his greatest love was spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his siblings Tony, Tito, Julio, Sarafino, Ido, Antoinette, and Joseph, and twin grandchildren Logan and Dillon Zembo.

Oliver leaves behind his loving wife Irene, daughters Carol (John) Tuomi and Cathy Moretto, grandsons Jason (Michele) and Jesse Tuomi, Justin (Rochelle), Brody, and Travis Zembo, and great-grandchildren Alea Stolquist, and Devan and Landen Zembo.

Oliver was a wonderful husband, father, and grandpa. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and his beloved dog Maggie.

A private family memorial service will be held on Thursday Dec. 29.

Services provided by the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
