The 2005 Concordia College Christmas concert “O Come All Ye Faithful” is broadcast on public television stations this holiday season.
The program airs at 10 p.m. Dec. 20 and 4 a.m., 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 21 on PBS’ Minnesota Channel and at 10 p.m. Dec. 20 on Lakeland Public Television’s 9.6 Lakeland Minnesota channel.
During this hour-long event, 435 student musicians in five choirs, a symphony orchestra and a handbell perform against a breathtaking 20-foot by 180-foot hand-painted mural. Recorded in high definition for the first time, this state-of-the-art production brings the Christmas story to life through a powerful blend of music, pageant and art. The program is designed to provide audiences of all ages with an intimate viewing experience.
In 2005 world-renowned conductor and composer René Clausen celebrated his 20th year as conductor of the Concordia Choir and artistic director of the Christmas concert.
Well-known liturgical artist David Hetland, in his 36th and final year with the concert, designed the expansive mural, with this year’s being the most intricate and detailed yet. Hetland passed away on Easter of 2006.
The Concordia Christmas Concert draws more than 20,000 people annually to the concert in Moorhead and at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.
