The Superior High School boys swimming and diving team tuned up for the 2011-12 season by finishing tied for second at Saturday’s Hodag Relays at Rhinelander High School.
Superior’s Mason Ford, Ian Walker and Andy and George Eisenmann won three relay titles at Saturday’s Hodag Relays in Rhinelander, Wis., to boost the Spartans to a second-place tie with Rice Lake with 85 points.
The Spartan quartet won the 200 freestyle (1:34.99), 500 freestyle (4:44.57) and 400 freestyle (3:35.01).
Green Bay-United won the meet with 102 points.
“We look to be strong in the freestyle this year,” SHS coach George Lehman said. “We have five or six strong swimmers who will be competing for a spot on what looks to be several state meet quality freestyle relays.
“Mason Ford, Jacob Noonan and Andy and George Eisenmann were our top freestylers last year. This year Ian Walker and Matt Sherwood will be challenging those four. We also have a rapidly improving group of younger swimmers and divers. Hopefully the holes in our line-up will get filled in as the season progresses.”
The Spartans swim at Eau Claire Memorial today at 6:30 p.m. and then in the ECM Santa Invitational at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
