Regner wins title, Spartans finish 14th at Husky Invite

The Superior High School wrestling team finished 14th at Saturday’s Eau Claire North Husky Invite.

Nekoosa/Port Edwards finished first among a field of 19 teams with 423 points. Medford was second and Osseo, Minn., was third. The Spartans had 205 points.

For Superior, Ben Regner finished in first place at 220 pounds and Nick Kirchoff finished third at 145.

Regner improved to 5-0 on the season with pins over Scott Durdin and Zach Prokosch of Osseo, Minn., and Jens Staff of Blair-Taylor, and a 3-1 overtime win over Medford’s Nick Berger in the title match.

Kirchoff was pinned by Medford’s Jacob Stamos in his first match, but rebounded with pins over Travis Guenther, Blair-Taylor; Aaric Spencer, Medford; and Ross Peterson, Ladysmith.

The Spartans host Spooner at 7 p.m. Thursday.
