Malley O’Brien, a 14-year-old ninth-grader at Superior High School, has been selected to the United States Youth Soccer Region II Girls Olympic Development Program Pool Team in her age group.
Regional and national coaches selected her at a regional camp held in DeKalb, Ill. At this camp, the top 18 players from each of our 14 Midwestern states competed for selection to the pool team.
“Being selected to the regional pool is a major accomplishment,” said Ellie Singer, Region II Administrator for the Olympic Development Program.
“Malley will be observed now and in the future for possible selection to the U.S. National team. Some of these players have gone on to win Olympic Gold Medals in 1996 and are represented on the FIFA Women’s World Cup, 2008 and 2012 Olympic and National teams.”
O’Brien, the daughter of Bill and Heidi O’Brien, is a member of the Minnesota Thunder Elite of Minneapolis.
She has also been asked to play for her regional team in a Costa Rica tournament.
