Governor OKs funding for Solon Springs Airport

Gov. Scott Walker approved a $66,843 runway electrical design project at the Solon Springs Municipal Airport in Douglas County. The governor’s action releases $1,671 in state funds for planning and design work. The town and village of Solon Springs are contributing $1,672 and the Federal Aviation Administration is providing $63,500.

According to Stacey Miller, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will develop plans and specifications for more intense runway lighting which is necessary for night navigation.

The project planning and design is scheduled to begin in November and should be completed in the spring.

Facilities at the Solon Springs Municipal Airport include a 3,100 foot paved runway. The airport accommodates more than 3,000 aircraft take-offs and landings each year.
