St. Paul man charged in scissors-stabbing

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul man is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly stabbing a cross-dresser to death with a pair of scissors.

Forty-four-year-old Anthony Haukos is accused of killing 59-year-old Thomas Stein Thursday night. Haukos lived in a group home for the mentally ill across the street from Stein.

The complaint says police were called to Stein's apartment on a report of an unruly man. One officer looked through a window and saw Stein down with a bloodied face and clothing, with Haukos curled up with him. It says the officer saw him stab Stein with the scissors. Stein didn't appear to react.

Police arrested Haukos after a struggle. The complaint says he told a nurse he was the devil and the victim was a witch.

He's due in court Monday.
