MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis man faces felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly drowning his girlfriend's pet ferret in the animal's water bowl.
Twenty-three-year-old Thomas James Hart is charged in Hennepin County.
According to the charges, police were called early Wednesday to the apartment Hart shared with his girlfriend. The Star Tribune reports police found the girlfriend crying hysterically and repeating "He drowned it! He killed my pet ferret!"
The woman told police she was breaking up with Hart. When she returned to the apartment after an evening out, the girlfriend told police she went to feed the ferret when she realized it was dead.
She told police Hart had previously threatened to kill the ferret.
Hart was released from jail Friday. A home telephone number for him could not be found.
