UWS goes 1-1 in Stinger Classic; action contiues today
The University of Wisconsin-Superior volleyball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Stinger Classic at Mertz Mortorelli gym.
The Yellowjackets defeated Finlandia 3-0 and lost to Bethel 3-1.
Action continues today (Saturday) with matches at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
UWS plays Augsburg at noon and St. Catherine at 2 p.m.
The Yellowjackets had arguably their most dominant match of the year in the win over Finlandia, holding the Lions to just eight kills. In the second match, they outplayed Bethel, but errors on both offense and defense put them in a hole they couldn’t get out of.
Kitty Tynen led the Yellowjackets in kills in both matches. Keely Deadrick had a big day with 73 assists in the two matches, while another Esko native, Farrah Wirtz, had a season-best 10 service aces against Finlandia and led the team in digs against Bethel.
