Season ends for SHS netters and boys soccer team; swimmers finish in 4th place
The season came to an end for the Superior High School girls tennis team last week at the WIAA sub-sectional tournament at Eau Claire Memorial.
Superior’s Kailey Phillips won her opening match at No. 4 singles over Taylor Huppert of Chippewa Falls, 3-1; but then lost to Kelsie Hines of Hudson, 2-0.
The Spartans’ No. 3 doubles team of Cassie Hanson and Sara Olson also won their opening match, 6-3, 6-4 over Rice Lake’s Weiler and Blechinger. They were then eliminated from post-season play with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Eau Claire Memorial’s Mueller and Cunningham.
“Although this was not the way we would have liked to end our season, the girls played outstanding in these matches,” SHS coach Pete Conley said. “They went up against some very good teams and played as tough as they could.
“It was an honor for me to have had the opportunity to work with these girls. I have been working with some of them since their freshman year and it will be very difficult to see them go. They handle themselves with the utmost integrity on and off the court.
Every year I am lucky enough to work with some of the best student athletes at the high school. I have been doing this for nearly 20 years and this year’s group has been one of the best I have worked with. I am extremely proud of all that they have accomplished on and off the court.”
