As hats are being tossed into U.S. Senate and Congressional rings around Wisconsin ahead of next year’s election, one state representative is making it clear she wants nothing to do with congress.
Freshman Republican Congressman Sean Duffy of Ashland is being targeted by some Democrats as vulnerable. He lives in the northernmost district of Wisconsin, one held by Democrat Dave Obey for 42 years. A few people are hoping first-term Democratic state Rep. Janet Bewley, D-Ashland, will take on Duffy.
She says no way.
“The thought of running. Oh my god. Why in the world would anyone want to do such a thing?” she said. “I’m dead serious. Why would anyone want to run for Congress?”
Bewley says she’s happy serving in the state legislature.
