The Northwood-Solon Springs football team had 552 yards of total offense Friday night in a 53-42 victory over Winter.
The Evergreens, 3-1 overall and in the Small Lakeland Conference, scored 24 points in the first quarter and 20 in the second before letting up in the second half.
“It was good to see our offense be able to execute both our base offense and be able to throw the ball,” said Evergreens coach Brian Trettin. “The bright spot was seeing our offensive line step up and execute well in pass protection.”
Northwood quarterback Phil Larson threw for one touchdown and rushed for another Friday. He was 8-for-15 passing for 141 yards and also added 32 yards rushing. Brett Missinne also spent time at QB and went 3-for-4 for 22 yards.
Josh Malone ran in two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversion attempts to finish with 55 yards rushing and also had 85 yards receiving and one TD catch. Nick Murray had 66 yards receiving and 34 yards rushing as he ran in two TDs and a two-point conversion. Also running in touchdowns were Tyler Long and Austin Meyer, who finished with 58 and 33 yards rushing, respectively. Erik Olson had 26 yards rushing, and Missinne added 15 yards and one two-point conversion.
“Defensively we will need to step up this week to play a very good Shell Lake team,” Trettin said.
Shell Lake, sitting atop the conference standings with an undefeated record, has averaged about 42 points per game while holding teams to less than 13.
“We are looking for our first victory over Shell Lake in school history,” Trettin said. “Our team is working towards their first four-game win streak since 1981, when the Evergreens were Lakeland Conference champs.”
