Cloquet River Run/Walk
The fourth annual Cloquet River Run/Walk is Sept. 24. The event, which offers 1-mile and 5K courses (along with free races for children), will take place at 9 a.m. at Churchill Elementary School in Cloquet.
Registration may be completed online at cloquetriverrun.com or entries are available at Gordy’s Hi-Hat and Churchill School. Early registration fees (on or before Sept. 20) are $20 for the 5K race, $13 for the 1-mile. Fees increase to $25 and $18 respectively after Sept. 20.
Race proceeds will help fund playground equipment and SMART Board Technology at Churchill Elementary.
The weekend of events begins Sept. 23 with a pasta and salad feed, and a free health and fitness expo featuring fun activities, information, an obstacle course and kids’ play area. Both are held at Churchill school.
Tickets for the pasta and salad feed ($8 for adults, $5 for children) are available online at the River Run website: cloquetriverrun.com and at the door. Proceeds from the pasta feed go to benefit all Cloquet schools’ activities and programs.
Hartley Nature Trax Trail Run
The third annual Hartley Nature Trax Trail Run and Fundraiser Run with HART is Oct. 1 at the Hartley Nature Center in Duluth.
The 10k and 5k run for adults and children will help raise funding for the multitude of youth programs provided by the center, which is located at 3001 Woodland Ave. in Duluth.
Register online at www.active.com/ or in person at Austin Jarrow or Hartley Nature Center. Race day registration hours are 7 to 8:30 a.m.
Along with the 10k/5k races there will be a Kids Critter Race. There will also be a post-race awards/feed and live music by Rich Mattson and Tony Derrick.
The 5k race begins at 9 a.m. and the 10k at approximately 9:10 a.m. The Kids Critter Race is at 10:15 a.m.
Registration is now open. The general entry fee before Sept. 23 is $30 for both the 5k and 10k and $35 after Sept. 23.
The cost for students aging 9-21 before Sept. 23 is $25 and the Kids Critter Races is $12.
Early team registration is $125 and late registration is $130. All team registrations proceeds support Hartley Nature Center School Scholarships.

Thunder Bay Marathon
The second annual Thunder Bay Marathon — Miles with the Giant race weekend on Sept. 18 is less than two weeks away. The event will feature a full marathon of 26.2 miles, a half marathon of 13.1 miles and a 10K run and walk. Interested participants are reminded that online registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.
“We’re looking forward to another successful event” says Barry Streib, President of the Thunder Bay Marathon — Miles with the Giant Board. “We have nearly 600 registrants from more than 52 communities across Northwestern Ontario, Canada and the mid-west United States.
“We’re also very excited to have Dick Beardsley, inspirational speaker and world famous marathoner, as our special guest. Dick will visit local high schools on Sept. 16 and will be the keynote speaker at our Pasta Dinner on Sept. 17. He will also act as official race starter on Sept. 18.”
