One man is dead after a small boat capsized on Dilly Lake in Washburn County, according to the sheriff’s department.
The Washburn County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched around 8 p.m. Saturday to Dilly Lake on a report that a boat had tipped over on Dilly Lake.
Before the sheriff’s deputies arrived, the two people who had been in the boat were picked out of the water by a husband and wife riding on their pontoon boat. The couple took the two to the landing on Dilly Lake.
CPR was administered on the landing to Timothy Francis Anderson, 42, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., and he was immediately transported to the Spooner Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Apparently, Anderson stood up in the small boat, slipped and fell overboard, causing a female party in the boat to fall out and the boat to capsize. Apparently, life jackets were present, but neither was used. Both subjects attempted to swim to shore; however, Anderson wasn’t able to make it.
This incident has been turned over to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for further investigation.
Washburn County Sheriff’s Deputies and Spooner Ambulance were dispatched to Dilly Lake.
