State Highway 35 south of Superior is closed due to flooding and several county roads are out of commission.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the north- and southbound lanes of the highway are closed. The public is advised northbound traffic should divert at County Road T to travel to U.S. Highway 53. Southbound traffic should take County Road C to U.S. Highway 53 to travel around the closed highway.
According to Douglas County Highway Commissioner Paul Halverson, water is rising toward the bridge and County Road C and the highway department may have to close that road as well.
Some county highways have also been affected by the flooding. County Highway M is totally closed due to flooding and two county highways west of Pattison Park are closed after the roads washed out. County Highway B near BB and County Highway W are closed.
Halverson said people living in those areas could be stranded for a while.
“The sun is peaking out now,” Halverson said. “That’s a good sign but the water’s going to be rising for awhile.”
