Suicidal man taken into custody in city forest
Superior police took a 39-year-old man into custody around 1 p.m. today in the Superior Municipal Forest.
Superior police took a 39-year-old man into custody around 1 p.m. today in the Superior Municipal Forest, according to a news release issued by Capt. Chad La Lor.
At about 11:06 a.m. Thursday officers from the Superior Police Department were dispatched to attempt to locate an armed, suicidal male after the Douglas County 911 Center had received a call reporting a Superior man had left a home in Billings Park, threatening to harm himself.
Officers located the man’s unoccupied vehicle parked at the city ski trail parking lot at North 28th Street and Wyoming Avenue a short time later.
A perimeter was established by officers from the Superior Police Department and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department that encompassed North 28th and 42nd streets, Elmira Avenue and Billings Drive.
At about 1 p.m., officers observed the man leaving the woods and approaching his vehicle.
The man was taken into custody without incident. He was in possession of a handgun at the time he was taken into custody.
The man was transported to a Duluth hospital for evaluation.
