Successful fundraising efforts by the PTAs at Bryant and Great Lakes elementary schools are closing the playgrounds at each of the schools to prepare for new equipment.
The playground at Bryant Elementary closes today and Great Lakes closes Thursday so buildings and grounds crews for the Superior school district can begin removing existing equipment, said Gary Niemi, director of buildings and grounds.
He said the playgrounds will remain closed for a month or so — depending on the weather — while new equipment is installed and playground surfaces are replaced.
The new equipment is scheduled the weekend of Aug. 13-14.
Niemi said after the new equipment is installed at each of the schools, it will take another week or two to install the new surfaces.
The goal is to have the playgrounds ready when school starts in the fall, he said.
School starts Sept. 1.
