SPOONER — The Superior Reds went 1-1 Saturday at the Spooner Wood Bat Tournament. The Reds opened with a 7-2 loss to Spooner then rebounded with a come-from-behind 10-8 victory over Eau Claire.
The Eau Claire squad included members of the Eau Claire North Huskies, which recently won the WIAA Division 1 state tournament. Spooner also advanced to state, finishing second in the Division 2 tournament.

Spooner left-hander Kyle Gauger picked up the complete-game win over the Reds, allowing five hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Spencer Severson suffered the loss, allowing six hits with two strikeouts and three walks in seven innings.
The only support Severson got offensively came when Kellen McCoshen’s ground out scored Sam Schiff, who doubled in the sixth inning, and Taylor Olson, who doubled home Spencer Koskie in the seventh.
Spooner scored four times in the second inning, twice on Donnie Roberts single, and once each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Roberts finished with two singles, Brandon Shutt and Hoover doubled, and Sam Holden, Riley Holden and Boctwell singled.
For the Reds, Olson hit an RBI double, McCoshen singled and had an RBI, Schiff doubled and Rob Dembroski and Jordan McDonald singled.
Superior Reds 10, Eau Claire 8
McDonald was the star of the game against Eau Claire, tossing a complete-game victory and providing the winning runs with a three-run home run in the of the seventh inning.
Trailing 5-0 after five innings, the Reds made it a 5-4 game in the top of the sixth inning.
Eau Claire got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-4 lead, but Superior exploded for six runs in the seventh inning for a 10-7 lead. McDonald knocked in the final three runs when the left-handed batter hit the ball over the left-field fence.
Eau Claire got one run back in the bottom of the seventh inning when Jake Sparger doubled and scored on Jason Faanes’ single, but McDonald got a ground out and fly out to end the.
McDonald allowed 12 hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Garret Phillips suffered the complete-game loss, allowing 10 hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
McCoshen had a big game for the Reds, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. Olson added two singles and an RBI; Paul Edwards hit a run-scoring single; and Schiff and Koskie singled.
Sam Hurt and Tyler Herman hit home runs for Eau Claire (9-6). Hurt and Herman also finished with two hits along with Sparger, Faanes and Kyle Rauch, while Sam Janni and Brady Burzynski each had one hit.
NOTES: Severson was pitching for the first time since getting hit by a line drive during the championship game of the Lakeview Classic last weekend. Luckily, Severson’s injury only included a swollen left hand and a bruised pinky. … Eau Claire was picked as the site for this year’s district tournament, which runs from July 21-23. … The Reds (11-3) have eight home games scheduled this coming week. They host Duluth Central at 8 p.m. Tuesday, West Duluth for a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Wednesday; Ashland for a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Friday; Hermantown for one game at 1 p.m. Saturday and Menomonie for two games at noon on Sunday, July 10. ...
