The Wisconsin Historical Society was awarded the Douglas County Historical Society a 2011 Public Program Award for a book, exhibit and play documenting the history of Superior Central High School.
The local historical society in Superior produced the book, “Central A to Z: The History of a Superior School,” the play, “Strike for Dickie!: The People vs. The Board of Education” and a public exhibit titled “Central Centennial: What in the James J. Hill was Going on Here?” to commemorate the school’s centennial.
A panel of judges from the Wisconsin Historical Society recommended the county historical society receive the award, saying the exhibit and play were thoroughly researched and creative. The multi-pronged approaches to documenting the school’s history involved many people throughout the community.
The Wisconsin Historical Society’s Board of Curators approved the award at its meeting on June 25.
