Wis. gov to sign bass culling bill

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says he'll sign a bill that would reshape Wisconsin bass tournament rules.

The Republican-backed measure would legalize culling, the practice of catching a fish alive and then throwing it back after catching a larger one. It's illegal in Wisconsin but the bill would create an exemption for bass tournaments.

The bill's chief sponsor, Rep. Joel Kleefisch, an Oconomowoc Republican, says the change will draw larger tournaments to the state and pump up local economies.

Both the Senate and Assembly passed the bill earlier this month. Walker says he'll sign the bill Friday morning at the Golden Mast Inn on Okauchee Lake in Oconomowoc.
