Tiger girls blank Rails

The Northwestern Tigers softball team rebounded from an 8-3 loss at Bloomer on Monday with a 7-0 shutout of the Spooner Rails Tuesday in Brule.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning when they exploded for five runs to increase their lead to 7-0.

Liz Urbaniak was the winning pitcher for Northwestern, giving up two hits and walking two while striking out 11.

Urbaniak was also one of four Tigers to collect a pair of hits in the game. Other with two hits were Kelcee Janigo, Sarah Miller and Amber Eller.

Alie Larson added one hit and an RBI, and Tiana Arseneau had one hit as well.

On Monday, Bloomer improved to 19-1 overall and 12-0 in the Heart O’ North Conference. In the process, the Blackhawks clinched their second straight conference championship.

Northwestern’s Eller hit her second home run of the season in the loss.

The Tigers, 7-6 overall and 5-4 in the HON, host Ladysmith at 5 p.m. Thursday. The Rails fall to 4-8 and 3-8.
