Eagles rebound from Highway 53 loss

The Solon Springs baseball team rebounded from Friday’s loss to the Northwood Evergreens with a 12-1 win in five innings over Butternut (0-4) Monday evening in Solon Springs.

After allowing Butternut to score in the top of the first inning, the Eagles responded by scoring in four straight innings, including four times in the third inning and five times in the fourth.

Brett Missinne went the distance in the win, allowing four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

On offense, the Eagles were led by Kevin Zamzow, who doubled and had two RBIs; Dustin Lietha, who scored twice and knocked in another; Caleb Utyro, who singled twice and had two RBis; and Cole Klinzing, who doubled, singled, knocked in two runs and scored two others.

The Eagles (5-3 overall, 4-2 Indianhead Conference) hosted Ironwood for a doubleheader Tuesday and play at Bayfield on Thursday.

Evergreens 9, Eagles 5

The Northwood Evergreens defeated the Eagles 9-5 in a non-conference baseball game Friday evening in Minong.

The host Evergreens scored once in the first inning, three times in the third and five times in the fourth.

The Eagles scored twice in the second inning, once in the fourth and made things interesting with a two-run seventh inning.

Solon Springs finished with four hits and Northwood seven. Each team committed four errors.

Solon Springs got a double, single and RBI from Caleb Utyro, a double and RBI from Lietha, and a single and RBI from Zamzow.

Cody Utyro suffered the loss on the mound for the Eagles, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.
