The Hayward Hurricanes blanked the Northwestern Tigers softball team 4-0 Tuesday evening in Hayward.
The Hurricanes scored three of their runs in the fourth inning and their final run in the sixth.
Northwestern had three hits, including a double and single by Alex Bodendorfer and a single by Amber Eller.
Hayward had seven hits, led by Rachel Thearin, who was 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Tiffany Nebel added two hits and Alyssa Ahlgren and Coralee Christman had a hit apiece.
The Tigers host Chetek for a doubleheader at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Baseball
The Northwestern baseball team lost 15-13 to the Hayward Hurricanes Tuesday at the Tigers’ home field in Iron River.
T.J. Polkoski tripled, doubled and singled for the Tigers, who fall to 1-1 on the season.
Kyle Heinz was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Cody Patko and Dillon White had three hits each for the Hurricanes.
Ryan Gerich was the winning pitcher in relief of Aaron Martin and Patko.
Paul Danczyk also had two hits and Gerich, Martin, Zach Stone and Jarrett Yuknis had one hit apiece.
Northwestern is back in action Monday at Nashwauk-Keewatin and Tuesday at Cumberland. Both games begin at 4:30 p.m.
