Harold Mattson, 90, of Superior died Saturday April 16, 2011, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Superior.
He was born in Wentworth on Oct. 13, 1920, to Emil and Mary Mattson. Harold had worked for the Great Northern Railroad as a switchman until his accident. He had also worked as a logger, and sold lumber. He was an avid hunter, and went moose hunting in Canada many times. Harold had played baseball on the tavern leagues, and was a pitcher. He was one of the founders for the Snow Shoe Capital of the World in Lyman Lake. While living in his log house in Hawthorne he had several large gardens that where shared by many.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Mary, brothers Rudolph, Runar, and Thurie, and sisters Agnes, Ina, Alice, Angeline, Dorothy and Helen.
Harold is survived by his wife Edith of 65 years, son Robert, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jeff, Tommy, Ed, And Danny Williams, Dan Dawson, and Ellis Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday April 23, 2011, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Thompson-Hegstrom Funeral Home. Chaplin Gary Meller will officiate. Burial will be in Poplar Cemetery.
