Youth basketball roundup

During the recent end of year Superior Basketball Association playoffs, a number of consolation games were played.

The seventh- and eighth-grade Bryant/Cooper girls and fifth- and sixth-grade Solon Springs girls both captured their first wins of the season. Girls on both teams showed steady improvement as the season progressed and had come close to capturing that elusive first win on numerous occasions.

In the grade 7-8 girls division, the Bryant/Cooper jumped out to a 16-8 halftime lead against Great Lakes/Northern Lights. Bryant held a 21-12 advantage after three quarters and held off a fourth quarter surge by Great Lakes for the 22-20 victory.

Bryant was led in scoring by Miranda Oja and Mikayla Berry, who scored 10 and five points, respectively.

Patriot Stark, Santana Knight and Danielle Blank led Great Lakes.

The Solon Springs grade 5-6 girls beat Northern Lights/Great Lakes 22-19. The game was close from the beginning, with Northern Lights leading 11-10 halftime and 19-18 after the third quarter. In the final seven minutes of player, however, Solon Springs outscored Northern Lights 4-0 for the win.

Solon Springs was led by Daisy White’s 12 points and six from Taylor Blaylock. Northern Lights was led by Alexis Jensen, Katie Lundgren and Madison Massoglia.
