Why are you seeking the seat?
I am seeking a seat on the School Board of Maple because I want to see our children get the best education they can possibly get.
How can the district weather the coming budget crunch? What cuts do you feel can be made to keep costs down? Do you forsee taxes increasing to maintain the quality of education?
With the current budget crunch, as a board we need to look at different ways of cutting costs. We are trying to keep curriculum and programs intact. We are looking at not replacing the retirees and trying to fill these spots from within. This would mean restructuring and reassigning staff. I am open to listening to other people’s ideas on how we can cut costs. I am not in favor of taxes increasing.
Do you have a plan to absorb students from the South Shore School District, if it dissolves? How big a financial strain would that put on the district in regards to busing costs? Is there enough room in the schools to absorb them? How would those issues be addressed?
I do not like to speculate on South Shore School District closing but if it did happen our facilities would be able to handle their students.
What other big challenges are facing the district?
Some other big challenges that are facing the district are common core curriculum standards that the state is mandating.
How would you deal with them?
What strengths do you bring to the job; what sets you apart as a candidate?
My strengths to this position is that I have been on the board for the past three years. It takes time to become familiar with all that’s involved in being on the school board. Now with the budget issues, it is a critical time to have current school board experience. I have been very involved with different committees on the board such as finance, curriculum, and buildings and grounds. I have been very active with the children by volunteering in many different coaching positions.
Is there anything else you feel is important for voters to know about you or your qualifications?
I would appreciate your vote and appreciate your input at any time.
