Senate adjourns indefinitely waiting for Democrats

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Senate has adjourned indefinitely awaiting the arrival of Democrats who skipped town on Thursday.

Republicans met briefly Friday and adjourned. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says it can reconvene in short notice at any time, including over the weekend, if Democrats return.

Fitzgerald says he has no idea where the Democrats are and he hasn't been in contact with Minority Leader Mark Miller since Thursday.

Fitzgerald says it's irresponsible for Democrats to leave town as tens of thousands of protesters demonstrate at the Capitol for the fourth straight day. Fitzgerald says he's been making security decisions for all lawmakers in the absence of Democrats.

Fitzgerald says Republican support for the bill stripping union rights remains strong.
