MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin cat owners who can't afford to get their pets neutered will have access to low-cost services next month as part of national Spay Day USA.
The Wisconsin Humane Society says shelters across the state will participate. The event will be Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Angela Speed is a spokeswoman for the organization. She says on that day, owners will be charged veterinary fees on a sliding scale depending on family income and other factors. She says the procedure could be as cheap as $10.
The Wisconsin Humane Society also offers a similar year-round neutering-assistance program. That's for owners of both dogs and cats, and charges are also based upon income.
But Speed encourages cat owners to take advantage of Spay Day because more volunteer veterinarians and techs will be available.
