TOWN OF MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Dane County man who found $6,000 and turned the cash over to police will get to keep the money after no one stepped forward to claim it.

Officers in the Town of Madison handed the money over to Pedro Bello-Alarcon on Tuesday.

Police say Bello-Alarcon turned in the money two months ago. He also published two notices in the Wisconsin State Journal.

The required 60 days passed but no one claimed the money. Police say two people called in about the cash but the property they lost wasn't the $6,000 that Bello-Alarcon found.

WMTV reports that police not only gave Bello-Alarcon the money but they also awarded him a Town of Madison Challenge Coin. The coin was to commend him for his honesty in turning over the cash.
