Eyewitness News Anchor Sandy Drag has decided the time is right to step away from the anchor desk and the newsroom. The announcement was made today by News Director Steve Goodspeed.
Sandy has accepted a position with Cleveland Cliffs as District Manager in Public Affairs.
“Leaving Channels 10 & 13 is a very difficult decision, but the timing and opportunity seemed right at this time in my life,” Sandy said. Sandy and her husband are expecting their first child in late March and she says her new position will allow her to better balance the responsibilities of being a working professional and a new mother.
“I have loved working at WDIO-TV. I enjoy my work and I have made many dear friends here. I will be leaving with fond and warm memories,” Sandy said. Adding, “At the same time, the hours and demands in television news are very challenging and often unpredictable. My new position at Cliffs allows me to join another fine organization while going through a transition in my family life.”
Goodspeed said her departure was a loss for the station, but that he was very happy for Sandy. “Sandy has been a tremendous asset and leader in our newsroom. She has covered every type of story and brought that reporting experience to the anchor desk,” Goodspeed said. Adding, “She has also worked hard to help train and guide other staff members. We will miss her, but we also understand her decision and wish her every happiness.”
Sandy’s last day with the station will be Jan. 21.
