PESHTIGO, Wis. (AP) — Friends of families whose teens were being held hostage in a high school classroom gathered for a vigil while the long ordeal unfolded in eastern Wisconsin.
About 50 people attended the vigil at Faith Baptist Church in Peshtigo Monday night. Some who came to the church knew the 15-year-old hostage taker personally. Others knew the teacher in the classroom and students being held at nearby Marinette High School.
Keith Schroeder is a friend of the family of the teen who held classmates at gunpoint. Schroeder tells WBAY-TV the situation seems totally out of character for the boy. The 23 hostages were released unharmed. The boy shot and injured himself in the classroom. His condition has not been released.
