The members of Country Peace Presbyterian Church, County Road A in the town of Superior, invite the community to a Memorial Tree-lighting Service at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, at the church.
The names of those remembered will be recited as part of the service, then the congregation will move outside, near a sign where all the names appear, to illuminate the memorial tree and to welcome the advent season with song and prayer.
Through gifts from the Memorial Tree-lighting Project last year, the congregation was able to make a sizable donation to Presbyterian Clearwater Forest Camp so more local youth could take advantage of the recreation and worship facility. They also increased their mission pledge to the Presbyterian Church USA and gave gifts to local persons in need at Christmas through a Giving Tree. This year hopes are to continue the Giving Tree project, and generously support a new week-end food program for homeless children and other children in need in the county school districts of St. Croix, Northwestern and Superior — Nutrition on Weekends (NOW). Anyone wishing to participate in the Memorial Tree-lighting Project should contact Kirsten Standen, (6760 E. Co. Rd. B, South Range WI 54874) at (715) 399-8998 by Nov. 26. Country Peace is a member of Pioneer Parish, six Presbyterian churches in Douglas and Bayfield counties.
