Washburn County jail administrator arrested
A Washburn County jail administrator, Capt. Bruk L. Sweeney of Comstock, Wis., was arrested and booked into the Washburn County Jail today.
A Washburn County jail administrator, Capt. Bruk L. Sweeney of Comstock, Wis., was arrested and booked into the Washburn County Jail on Tuesday.
According to a news release issued by the Washburn County Sheriff Terry C. Dryden, Sweeney was arrested on six counts of misconduct in public office and one count of felony theft. Sweeney, 37, is accused of criminal conduct and misappropriation of funds stemming from an ongoing investigation by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Department.
Sweeney appeared in court for a bail hearing Tuesday and was released on a $4,000 signature bond.
Washburn County District Attorney Mike Bitney requested the Chippewa County district attorney serve as special prosecutor because Sweeney worked for Washburn County for about four years as jail administrator.
Sweeney has been on administrative leave since Nov. 1 pending the outcome of the investigation, which is ongoing.
No further information was released pending the filing of a criminal complaint by the Chippewa County district attorney.
