Crash near Mason kills 2, injures 1
Two people were fatally injured and a third person injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Stefanski Road in Bayfield County.
Two people were fatally injured and a third person injured in a two vehicle crash Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Stefanski Road in Bayfield County.It is believed that rapidly deteriorating road conditions due to the snow storm played a role in the crash, according to a release from Lt. Dan Clark of the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department.
Names of the victims were not released pending notification of family, but information provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol stated that the deceased are a 62-year-old female from Hurley and a 70-year-old man from Ashland.
At approximately 10:40 a.m. Saturday, the Wisconsin State Patrol, along with the Bayfield County Sheriff's Department, Mason Fire and EMS and Ashland Fire departments investigated the crash. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Bayfield County Coroner's office. A 32-year-old woman from Hurley, who was a passenger in one vehicle, was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. Preliminary information reveals that a Dodge Durango with two occupants, westbound on Highway 2, lost control and struck an eastbound Dodge Caravan with one occupant.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
