The Superior High School girls swimming and diving team won the Lake Superior Conference Meet Saturday at the SHS Natatorium. The Spartans totaled 349 points, outpacing second-place Proctor-Hermantown by 29 points.

Superior also clinched the LSC title, which is determined by combining dual meet standings with championship meet places. Proctor-Hermantown and Duluth Central tied for second in conference with Cloquet-Esko-Carlton finishing fourth.

Junior Kelsey Hansen won both the 200 and 100 freestyle events to lead the Spartans, while sophomore Tori Johnson won the 50 free and placed second in the backstroke. Both were joined by senior Emily Aller and sophomore Grace Elonen on the gold medal 200 and 400 freestyle relays. Aller placed third in the 50 free while Elonen was fourth in the 100 free.

Seniors Kayla Bedard and Taylor Christner led a strong contingent of SHS divers for a 1-4 sweep in that event. Senior Laura Eisenmann (individual medley) and freshman Nikki Hansen (breaststroke) each earned silver medals with impressive races.

Seniors Kaleena Eck, Taylor Cowling and Astrid Valley also contributed to the championship by scoring with their final swims in the SHS pool.

Sectional competition at Hudson Middle School begins Friday with diving at 5 p.m. and the swimming contest held Saturday at 1 p.m.
