Central Wis man dies after grass fire

FRANZEN, Wis. (AP) — An 82-year-old man is dead after the brush he was burning near his central Wisconsin home started a grass fire.

Marathon County Medical Examiner John Larson is still investigating whether Leo Liebe, of the town of Franzen, died from smoke inhalation, burns or other causes.

The county sheriff's department and Wittenberg Fire Department responded to the call at about 6 p.m. Friday. Liebe died at the scene.

The Wausau Daily Herald reports that the grass fire was extinguished soon after the call and did not damage any structures.
