The Superior football finished its season with a 54-22 loss Thursday night at Eau Claire North.
The Spartans end the season with records of 0-9 overall and 0-7 in the Big Rivers Conference, their first winless season since the 2005 season.
The Huskies end with 2-7 and 2-5 records.
Mitch DeGrasse helped the Huskies take a 41-6 halftime lead as the senior quarterback tossed four touchdowns passes, including two to Tyler Hermann.
Mixing the pass with the run the Huskies took a 7-0 lead on the opening drive of the game when DeGrasse hooked up on a 12-yard touchdown pass with Austin Reider. Greg Button kicked the extra point to put the finishing touches on the 86-yard drive.
ECN took a 14-0 lead on the first play of its next drive when Hermann caught a slant pass from DeGrasse and raced untouched 61 yards for the score. Button’s kick came with 6:37 left in the first quarter.
It went to 21-0 minutes later when Button blocked a Spartan punt and Grant Lokken recovered the ball in the end zone.
The Spartans got on the board with 2:50 left in the first quarter when sophomore quarterback Spencer Urban connected with Can Stanley on 21-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-down play. Urban’s pass on the extra-point play was intercepted. Stanley also caught a 37-yard pass during the drive.
North got that score back on its next drive as DeGrasse hooked up with Hermann again on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Button’s kick gave the Huskies a 28-6 lead.
Lokken caught a TD pass from DeGrasse and a short run in the final seconds gave ECN a 41-6 lead at halftime.
North scored again early in the third quarter for a 48-6 lead.
Jason Fannes then took over for DeGrasse and on his first pass was intercepted by Superior’s Will Wells.
A bright spot on defense for the Spartans was sophomore Anthony Valentine, who was in on three quarterback sacks in the first half for losses of 26 yards.
Superior got within 48-14 when Eric VanPuymbrouck recovered a ECN fumble in the end zone and Urban ran in for the two-point conversion with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Each team added a touchdown in the final minutes. Urban ran in from three yards out for Superior and DeGrasse scored from 41 yards out with 5:38 remaining.
