Evergreens volleyball team sweeps Eagles

The Northwood Evergreens opened the WIAA playoffs Tuesday night with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-7) victory over Solon Springs. The Evergreens next play South Shore at 7 p.m. Friday in Minong. South Shore, the No. 5 seed, upset No. 4 Siren 3-0 Tuesday to advance.

The Evergreens, seeded No. 1 in their Division 4 bracket, are hoping to make another trip to the sectional tournament.

“We got the No. 1 seed, but we have some tough competition,” said Evergreens coach Tod Wise.

Northwood missed out on another East Lakeland Conference title in the regular season after falling 3-1 to Division 3 Cameron late in the season. It was the only conference loss of the year for the Evergreens, who finished second behind Cameron.
