Green Bay fishermen rescue bridge jumper

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Two men fishing on the Fox River saved a woman who police say jumped off the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.

Jim Hughes of Kaukauna and Lonny Ziemer of Oshkosh were fishing for muskie Saturday afternoon and heading from the Fox River into the bay when they heard a loud splash behind them while passing under the interstate bridge. The men tell the Green Bay Press Gazette that Hughes thought it was a large fish jumping and Ziemer thought it was a tire dropping off the bridge — until they saw a woman's body surface.

They pulled her from the river and called 911, and emergency personnel were able to revive her. Police say she's a 42-year-old woman from Howard now being treated at an area hospital.
