ARCADIA, Wis. (AP) — Heavy rain has flooded parts of a small western Wisconsin community, where authorities have ordered a mandatory evacuation downtown, schools and roads have closed and local manufacturing has been put on hold Thursday.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says downtown Arcadia is underwater. Mayor John Kimmel declared a state of emergency and officials sounded the civil defense siren. Sheriff's deputies worked to evacuate homes in the downtown area which sits along the Trempealeau River.

Arcadia's park and recreation director Eva Anderson estimated 100 homes in the city of 2,500 could be affected by flooding. The Arcadia School District has canceled classes and production is on hold at Ashley Furniture.

Sheriff's deputies say Highways 95 and 93 into Arcadia are flooded.
