3 killed in crash on Wis. Hwy. 11 near South Wayne

SOUTH WAYNE, Wis. (AP) — Three people have died in a crash on Wisconsin Highway 11 near South Wayne in southern Wisconsin.

Lafayette County Sheriff Scott Pedley says a pickup truck towing a flatbed trailer was westbound on Highway 11 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound car around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the automobile and two passengers in the car died at the scene. They're identified as 67-year-old Richard J. Christen, of Monroe, 70-year-old Carol A. Wenger, of Monroe, and 65-year-old Kathryn D. Olin, of Brodhead.

The sheriff says preliminary findings are that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. But he says the two passengers in the car who died were not wearing seat belts. He says all the others were.
